MUZAFFARABAD:   (Parliament Times)   The untiring efforts of the Vice Chancellor, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) University, Professor Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi finally bore fruit, the Departmental Development Party (DDWP) of Higher Education Commission (HEC) approved a mega project for provision of missing necessities at King Abdullah Campus of UAJK costing over 399.400 million rupees.

According to the details, the prime objective of the project was to operationalize King Abdullah Campus (KAC) of the University, constructed at 1,021,233 sft by Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), however, some of the important facilities included in the existing plan of the construction of KAC were dropped from the scope of SFD mega project which had been proposed under this project.

Provision of electricity, water, internet, car parking and landscaping along-with the KAC were included in the missing necessities, which would be provided through the recently approved project.

The Vice Chancellor of the AJK University Professor Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi took up the issue with HEC and effectively pleaded the case in the meeting of DDWP and convinced the concerned authorities that without provision of these facilities, the newly constructed campus of the varsity wouldn’t become functional for educational and research activities.

Earlier, the SFD had approved a mega project costing over Rs. 1400 million for the provision of necessary and costly equipment for the laboratories of different departments and MPhil and PhD research scholars of UAJK in 2019.

It is worth mentioning here that it is the second mega project, which was approve for the UAJK in the tenure of VC Dr. Abbasi.

The faculty, associations and civil society have congratulated the Vice Chancellor on the approval of the project and lauded his efforts for the development of the infrastructure and enhancing the quality of education at UAJK.

Speaking to different delegations that called on the Vice Chancellor, he said after provision of such facilities approved for the UAJK, the KAC would be a model campus in any university of Pakistan.

Dr. Abbasi told that another project of UAJK relating to complete construction of Neelum Campus of the varsity as well as two departments and an auditorium at the Chella Bandi Campus is under process in Planning Commission of Pakistan.

He added that vigorous efforts were being made to get its approval too.

It is to recall that UAJK was worst hit by the earthquake 2005 and suffered heavy losses in terms of human lives and property. The reconstruction of the UAJK Muzaffarabad, KAC at Chatter Kallas had been built on 1018 kanals of land with the financial support of SFD, government of Saudi Arabia (KSA).-END
