MIRPUR (AJK): In the wake of the fast-moving ongoing drive to bring about ‘Green Revolution’ to Make Mirpur Green, Chief Justice of Azad Jammu Kashmir Justice Ch. Muhammad Ibrahim Zia here Tuesday joined the campaign by planting a precious fruit sapling at the lush green lawn of the local building of the Supreme Court of AJK.

The grand tree plantation project campaign named after ‘Make Mirpur Green’ has been launched by Mirpur District Administration with the full collaboration of UK-based International NGO Muslim Hands.

       AJK Supreme Court senior judges including Justice Raja Saeed Akram Khan, Justice Ghulam Musataf Mughal   and others also joined the drive by planting saplings at the lawn on this occasion

Commissioner Mirpur division Muhammad Tayyeb, DIG Police Mirpur Division Sardar Gulfraz Khan, Deputy Commissioner Sardar Adnan Khursheed, SSP Syed Riaz Bukhari, Muslim Hands Country Director in AJK Raja Arsalan Nusrat, Manager Mujtaba Haider, President DBA Ch. Tariq Bashir, judges of the superior and subordinate judiciary, lawyers, journalists and officials of the district administration and others were also present on this occasion.

Lauding the launching of ‘Make Mirpur Green’ mass tree plantation Project by the Muslim Hands with the collaboration of the District administration, the Chief Justice of AJK Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Zia said that trees are imperative for the human life, live stock as well as the pollution-free environment.

Talking to media on this occasion the Chief Justice advised he masses from all walks of life as well as the public sector functionaries, students and other private and public sector institutions to actively take part in the tree plantation drive to turn Mirpur into a lush green city for the attraction of locals as well as the tourists.

Briefing media on this occasion Muslim Hands AJK-based executive officer and country director Raja Arslan Nusrat said that his organization is going to plant over 20 thousands of the precious orchard / fruit trees over an area of 90 kanal of land at Lehri, in outskirt besides other locations of this expatriates city of Mirpur with the coordination of the District administration to implement the ‘Make Mirpur Green’ tree plantation project drive, to be continued till March 31 this year besides affixing the iron fences for safety of the plants.

Make Mirpur Green project is a youth initiate supported by Muslim Hands Mirpur and the district administration, Arsalan said. He continued as saying “our mission is to spread awareness about the current state of Mirpur regarding lack of trees.

Arsalan revealed that seeds of previous plants would be distributed among the people through visiting door to door in Mirpur during the tree plantation drive. “We will have a mass plantation at Dehri Rmu Ground Chitterpari besides Muslim Hands Football Academy at Sector D/4 in the city, he added.

The project shall be implemented in phases with a tentative methodology subject to change in feasibility of the project site. The District administration and Muslim Hands implemented the first phase of the project as pilot project.

It may be added that under the terms of reference of the MoU already reached between the two institutions, the District administration will facilitate to the Muslim Hands to make the drive complete success.

The local authorities shall be responsible for maintenance of the project for longer sustainability besides ensuring legal cover of the project side by side dealing with all inter and intra departmental constraints as and when required.. Ends
