The tenth day of Muharram is known as the day of Ashura. Muharram is a month of remembrance and modern Shia meditation that is often considered synonymous with Ashura. Ashura, which literally means the “Tenth” in Arabic, refers to the tenth day of Muharram. It is well-known because of historical significance and mourning for the Shahadat of Imam Hussain (A.s), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In the month of Muharram, The cold-water camps are always set in the whole Larkana from 1st Muharram till the end of the month. Here is no any concept of difference between Shia & Sunni, The Sunnis and Shias always cooperates each other in every events of death anniversary (Shahadat) or birth anniversary (Wiladat) of Imams. Many camps of Sabeel are installed in different areas of Larkana, where food (Nangar-Niyaz), drinking-water & juices (Sabeels) are distributed among the mourners. During this month, Majlis-e-azza & Matamdari continues from 1st Muharram to 10th Muharram, in which many Zakir-e-Ahl-e-bait namely Molana Ayaz Ali Qumi, Zakir Syed Qamar Abbas, Mushtaq Mashahadi, Rustum Lund and others deliver their sermons regarding the tragic incident of Karbala. On 10th Muharram Shia community celebrates Youm-e-Aushoora by prayers Nimaz at different places. There are many Imam-Bargahs in Larkana named Chardah Masoomeen Imam Bargah, Mehar Shah Bukhari Imam Bargah, Khichi Imam Bargah, Jafri Imam Bargah and much more, where, Majlis-e-azza are arranged. Many people of Larkana prefer to visit “Karbala” the Shrine of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.s) in Muharram-ul-haram. Mourners usually wear black dresses to mourn the death of Hussain (A.s) the grandson of the Prophe (PBUH). Hazrat Imam Hussain’s (A.s) Shahadat teaches us lesson of Islam.
The last few days of Ashura are the most important because these were the days in which Imam Hussein and his family and followers (including women, children and elderly people) were deprived of water. From 7th to 10th of Muharam, Imam Hussain and 72 of his followers were killed by Yazeed’s army during the battle of Karbala.The surviving members of Imam Hussein’s family and those of his followers were taken captive, marched to Damascus, and imprisoned there.
