Islamabad: Newly elected Pakistan President Dr. Arif Alvi has resigned from his NA seat.
Sources said Dr. Arif Alvi has sent his resignation to the National Assembly Secretariat. The newly elected President was elected MNA from NA 247 Karachi on July 25 securing 91020 votes while his close rival Syed Zaman Ali Jaffery of Tehrik-e-Laibak secured 24660 votes and MQM Dr. Farooq Sattar came third with 24146 votes.
The 13th President Dr. Arif Alvi of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is Dentist by profession. He was born in Karachi on 29 July 1949 and from his student life he was interested in politics.
Dr. Arif Alvi during his student life in Lahore in the De’montmorency College of Dentistry he was the active worker of the students unions against the then President Ayub Khan.
In 1979 on the ticket of Jamaat-e-Islami he contested Provincial Assembly election in PS 89 and remained unsuccessful. It was coincidence that Dr. Arif Alvi remained prominent in politics as well as in profession. He served as President of Asia Pacific Dental Federation and Pakistan Dental Association.
Dr. Arif Alvi became part of PTI in 1996 and is among the founder members of the PTI. The same year he became member for one year of the PTI Central Executive Council and became President of PTI Sindh in 1997. Arif Alvi remained Secretary General of PTI from 2006 to 2013.
In general election 2013 for the first time as PTI candidate he won NA 250 (Karachi 12) seat by securing more than 77000 votes and Dr. Arif Alvi was the lone PTI candidate who won the seat from Sindh.
In 2016 Dr. Arif Alvi became the PTI Sindh President and in 2018 general elections he once again won NA 247.
