Islamabad: (Parliament Times) Pakistan Alliance for Girls Education is an implementing and resource mobilisation partner of the program to enrol 1 million children all across Pakistan in formal and non-formal schools with support from Qatar based organisation ‘Education Above All’, Out-of-School children and especially girls are unable to attain education due to manifold reasons including access to school, poverty, lack of resources, social taboos, governance and cultural barriers.
ARC has been able to forge strong partnerships with the Government of Pakistan through the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training and its functionaries i.e. National Commission for Human Development and Basic Education Community Schools. ARC has also developed close relationships with the provincial departments, various regional education foundations and other line departments’ i.e. social welfare and child labour. In order to further the cause of strengthening education systems, ARC has also forged partnerships with various donors and civil society organisations.
On this occasion Pakistan Alliance for Girls Education, Executive Director Ms. Fajer Pasha Said that Pakistan has one of the lowest literacy rates in the world. The picture of educational condition is grim in Pakistan. At most all the urban areas of Pakistan are replete with developed institutes, universities but in spite of this number of children Out of School especially girls remains high. The situation is also especially alarming in rural areas due to social and cultural obstacles. According to AEPAM – Academy of Educational Planning & Management Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, 13 million out of 22.8 million children, who are not attending school, are girls. The education crisis is the most serious issue we are all challenged with”
PAGE believes that though enrolling “one million OOSC in Pakistan” is a daunting task, only a program of such magnitude will make a considerable difference in a country that hosts world’s second largest group of OOSC.
