RAWALPINDI: Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench has admitted for hearing contempt of court plea against former Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
Justice Tariq Abbasi of LHC Rawalpindi bench has remarked “ giving shut up call to those involved in contempt of court is must. Against whom decision comes from Karachi to Khyber he chants slogan when he comes outside the court and raises finger on the court.
The court maintained that it has not only been seen in election petitions but it has also been seen in other cases that fingers are raised on court decisions. The sanctity of courts should not be trampled and the procedure in place should be adopted.
The court directed the petitioner to file till July 2 TV interview by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi based on contempt of court, newspapers clippings and video clip. The next proceedings will become possible after this material is reviewed.
A citizen of Rawalpindi Malik Riaz Anjum filed a petition through Farooq Awan advocate taking the plea that election tribunal led by Justice Ibad ur Rehman Lodhi on an election petition disqualified Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for life on June 27 under article 62(i) F.
Reacting to it Shahid Khaqan Abbasi used insulting, derogatory and unconstitutional remarks against Justice Ibad ur Rehman Lodhi in a private TV channel program. Using insulting language against judiciary warrants action under article 204 of the constitution and contempt of court ordinance, petitioner added.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, PEMRA and secretary information have been made respondents in the petition.
During the course of hearing of the case on Friday, general secretary of High Court Bar Rawalpindi Hifsa Bukhari and elected member Masood Kiyani filed an application in the court for becoming party in the contempt of court petition against Shahid Khaqan Abbasi
The court adjourned the hearing of the case till July 3.
