QUETTA: Pakistan Workers Confederation (PWC) has strongly condemned the targeted killing of six labourers in Kharan district and termed it an inhuman act. The Confederation leaders Muhammad Ramzan Achakzai, Khan Zaman, Haji Bashir Ahmed, Haji Abdul Maroof Azad, Azizullah, Muhammad Yousaf, Aziz Ahmed Shahwani, Muhammad Qasim Kakar, Saifullah, Muhammad Rafiq Lehri, Faizullah, Ghulam Nabi Barohi, Nizam ud Din Kurd, Malik Abdul Waheed Kasi, Abdul Baqi Lehri, Bakht Nawab, Abid Butt and others have expressed concern over the death of 18 coal-mine workers due to gas explosion in Marwar, Sur-range and Margat areas of Balochistan.
In a press release the Confederation has expressed great concern over the economic and social sufferings of the working class and said the negligence on the part of the owners and lack of safety arrangements always lead to deaths of poverty-hit coal miners in the province. The Confederation has termed the incidents as a failure of the provincial government to take appropriate steps for curbing such incidents. The statement said that 32 labourers were burnt to death in Gadani tragedy. Moreover, in Gwadar, Turbat and Pasni killing of innocent labourer has now become a routine matter. But neither those responsible for the incidents have been brought to justice so for, nor any official has been suspended from the services on the charges of negligence and inefficiency.
The Confederation has expressed pleasure that the Chief Justice Supreme Court Mian Saqib Nisar has taken suo motu notice of the killing of six labourers, who were fixing a mobile phone tower in Kharan district. They demanded of the CJ to take notice of all labourers, who have fallen prey to targeted killings across the province. The Confederation has demanded of the authorities concerned to take immediate notice of officials, company and coal-mine owners for their criminal negligence. The Workers Confederation has also demanded of the government compensation worth 10 million for the heirs of the 8 Aug blast and strict action against alleged corruption and illegal appointments in government departments including provincial Labour department.
