ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has stopped relocation of Sharif family sugar mills from South Punjab till the decision of sugar mills case.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has remarked “ all will be well if you speak truth with Baba Rehmtay. That will be a weak chief justice who does not keep his eyes and ears open in and outside the court. The farmers have held meeting with whom in Lahore, its picture has come to me.

The court while rejecting the plea for issuing stay order against High Court (LHC) decision pertaining to relocation of Sharif family sugar mills admitted Sharif family appeals against Lahore High Court decision for hearing. The court has also stopped relocating Sharif family sugar mills from South Punjab till decision of the case.

A 3-member bench of SC presided over by CJP Saqib Nisar took up the case for hearing on Thursday.

At the inception of the hearing of the case, Aitzaz Ahsan counsel for Jahangir Tareen assured the court for purchasing the sugarcane from the farmers saying that five sugar mills of the area will purchase sugar cane from the farmers. JDW, RYK, HAMZA, ASHRAF, Indus sugar mills will purchase sugar cane from the farmers.

CJP remarked during the hearing of the case that “ Jahangir Tareen should ensure that farmers don’t suffer any loss and they are paid full compensation. Whatever assurance is given should be implemented in letter and spirit. The interest of the farmers is sacred.

The counsel for the petitioner said the capacity of sugar mills which have been allowed to purchase sugar cane is very low.

The CJP remarked “ its picture has come to me where the meeting of farmers was held in Lahore. It is known to me who has sponsored the farmers for hiring lawyer. All will be well if you speak the truth with Baba Rehmtay. That will be a weak chief justice whose eyes and ears will not remain open inside and outside the court.

Aitzaz Ahsan said who has given money to the farmers for giving advertisement in the newspapers.

CJP remarked “ I will monitor the process of purchasing sugar cane. We will hear in chamber any complaint in connection with purchase of sugar cane.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case till April 18.
