MIRPUR [AJK]: Local police Monday registered a case against 50 local lawyers including General Secretary of District Bar Association Mirpur Madassar Iqbal Advocate on the charges of thrashing two police officers including Sub Inspector Aatif Azeem and a constable besides for attacking the Deputy Commissioner Office Mirpur during an abortive attempt of making gehrao of the DC Office during the violent demonstration against Mirpur Development Authority here on Monday.
“Yes, a case has been registered against the 50 lawyers / members of the District Bar Association including its General Secretary for resorting to violent attack against the police sub inspector Aatif Azeem besides injuring a COP when a violent crowd of lawyers tried to storm upon the Deputy Commissioner office by attempting to besiege the office“, said SSP Mirpur Raja Irfan Salim when contacted by this Correspondent here tonight to confirm about the registration of the case.
The Senior Superintendent Police said that the lawyers were booked under relevant sections including 353, 147 and 148 Cr. Pc for trying to ram into the DC office and thrashing the police officers who resisted the lawyers alleged attempt to besiege and attack the DC office.
According to details the lawyers were protesting against the alleged manhandling of one of their senior colleagues and an ex President of the DBA Tabassam Sadiq Advocate by the local authorities including the District administration and Mirpur Development Authority during removal of an alleged unlawful encroachment erected by Tabassam Sadiq Advocate in local residential sector F-3 [part-3] in Mirpur during an operation launched by the MDA anti-encroachment staff and the local administration on Saturday.
Earlier lawyers boycotted the courts and brought out a big procession against Director General MDA Ch. Ejaz Raza and DC Mirpur Ansar Yaqoob here on Monday for the alleged manhandling of the senior DBA member Tabassam Sadiq Advocate during operation by MDA against the alleged encroachment with the assistance of the local administration. Lawyers termed the action unlawful and irrelevant as, according to Tabassam Sadiq Advocate he holds the lawful 0ccupation of the building demolished by the MDA staff on December 2 [Saturday] under a verdict by a court of law.
Besides the DBA President Shabir Shareef Advocate, lawyers leaders including newly elected members of AJK Bar Council Kamran Tariq Advocate, Shabir Kiyani Advocate, Fayaz Haider Nawabi Advocate, Azeem Dutt Advocate, Tabassam Sadiq Advocate and others accused MDA of turning into a den of corruption, malpractices and irregularities through exercising misuse of powers into the cases of allotments. They said that genuine allottees including thousands of the UK based Kashmiris expatriates have starting feeling their allotted properties in housing sectors of MDA unsaved because of the alleged malpractices and irregularities on the part of the MDA, they blamed.
The demonstrating lawyers demanded immediate removal of the Director General Mirpur Development Authority Ch. Ejaz Raza from the office for his inabilities and incapability and lack of experience to run the organization without any discrimination and prejudice. They asserted that an absolutely talented and seasoned official be assigned with the responsibility of the top slot of the MDA [Director General] to run the Organization in a smooth manner through resolving the series of issues confronted by the genuine allottees, they concluded.
