Muzaffarabad: The Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider Khan while stressing the need for promoting sports culture in the region has said that sports play a vital role in building a prosperous and healthy society.

The AJK premier said this during a media interview here on Sunday. The AJK PM said that promoting sports culture in the State was inescapably essential to keep young generation away from unhealthy and negative activities. He said that in next four years government has planed to build sports stadiums in all districts of Azad Kashmir to make sure that sports facilities be provided to the youth so that they could be able to prove their talent besides developing a fruitful career. “Government is planning to make playing grounds in each district of the state, even at union council level to provide opportunities for local youth to prove their talent on international level”, Prime Minister said.

The PM said that he was grateful to Lahore Qalanders and Jazz for Jazz Rising Stars and Geo-Supper for conducting cricket-trials of more than 35 thousand boys hailing from different cities and towns of Azad Kashmir saying that it was for the first time that the trial-matches played in AJK were shown live on television. He said that when the tournament would be held next year in Muzaffarabad, Cricket Stadium would have all international standard facilities available. “Cricket lovers will enjoy the match and I will personally visit to encourage the players”, he said. Prime Minister also appreciated the efforts of Ministry of Sports AJK, Lahore Qalandars and other relevant officials for conducting this tournament in Muzaffarabad.

He said that the information technology particularly the internet on one hand has brought numerous facilities to the common masses making their lives comfortable but on the other hand the internet facilities available at hand to every one has rendered playgrounds deserted. The internet revolution he said has changed the world altogether but this technology at the same time has kept our young generation away from sports and healthy activities. “Owing to this technology young generation has lost their interest in games”, he said adding that “We are committed to promote sports activities within the state, for this, every school shall be bound and obligated to make a playground”

He said that inclusion of Muzaffarabad cricket team in this tournament is the initiative of entrance AJK in national cricket team. “Our youth are talented and have abilities to shine as a star, we are determined to facilitate them”, Prime Minister added.
