Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, Dukhtaran-e-Millat has said that its Chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi, and her associate, Fehmeeda Sofi were shifted to Jammu jail despite court orders asking the authorities to release them immediately.

The DeM General Secretary, Nahida Nasreen in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the detention orders under draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) against Aasiya Andrabi and Fehmeeda Sofi were quashed by the High Court on Wednesday but both the women leaders were shifted to Jammu jail on Thursday.

Nahida Nasreen said the two leaders were brought for a hearing to district court on Wednesday and their health condition deteriorated within the court premises.

“Aasiya Andrabi suffered an acute asthma attack within the courtroom and her condition deteriorated so much that she couldn’t even breathe. After witnessing her condition, the court issued an immediate order asking police to admit her at the Chest Diseases hospital at Dalgate and report accordingly,” she said. “Fehmeeda Sofi also fainted in the other court premises and she too was referred to the SMHS hospital,” she added.

Nahida Nasreen said that the party Chairperson was taken back into police custody and lodged in Rambagh police station late in the night. “Fehmeeda Sofi was kept at SMHS for the night. Both had to undergo some tests,” she said.

The DeM General Secretary said that on Thursday, the party Chairperson was told that she would be taken back to CD hospital but was instead lodged in Rajbagh police station and kept there for hours. “The doctors had recommended that she be brought back to the hospital on Thursday morning but she was taken out from Rambagh police station and told that she has to go to CD hospital,” she said.

“Till 1:00pm, Aasiya didn’t reach CD hospital but was kept inside the police station Rajbagh which is meant for men. Aasiya Andrabi needs continuous supply of oxygen and other treatment but she has been shifted to Jammu jail against doctors’ recommendation and against the court orders,” she added.
