Jammu: In occupied Kashmir, major towns of Jammu region observed August 15 as Black Day on Tuesday against India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and blatant violations of human rights by Indian troops in the territory.
Members of Muslim community boycotted the India’s Independence celebrations, and closed their shops in Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Doda, Thathri, Gath and Gandoh areas in Jammu region in response to the shutdown call given by Joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
The call was fully backed by local Muslim organizations like Anjuman Islamia Bhaderwah, Seerat Committee Doda, Anjuman Islamia Gandoh, Markazi Majlis-e-Shoura Kishtwar and Masjid Committee Thathri.
All shops and business establishments belonging to Muslim community remained shut while transport was off the roads in these areas. Muslim community stayed away from Independence Day celebrations in every part of the Chenab Valley.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) in a statement issued in Srinagar terming the observance of Black Day on India’s Independence Day as referendum said by turning blind eye to such realities, India and its collaborators are deceiving none but themselves. “New Delhi cannot mislead the international community on Kashmir for long,†a party spokesperson said.
