Stockholm: Pakistan and Sweden have agreed to enhance cooperation at the United Nations and other multilateral international fora.
The resolve was expressed during deliberations made at 15th round of Pakistan-Sweden Bilateral Political Consultations in Swedish capital Stockholm.
The Pakistani delegation was led by Additional Secretary (Europe) Ambassador Zaheer Janjua while the Swedish side was led by Deputy Director General and Head of Department for Asia and Oceania Ambassador Cecilia Ruthstrom-Ruin.
The forum reviewed entire spectrum of bilateral relations and identified opportunities in spheres of trade, economy, investment, culture, education, Information Technology and telecommunications and parliamentary exchanges.
The two sides discussed international issues of mutual interest and deliberated upon means and ways for peace and security environments in their respective regions.
The Pakistani side briefed the Swedish delegation on Pakistan’s credentials for membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group, while emphasizing the need for a criteria-based, non-discriminatory approach towards new non-NPT member states.
Pakistan’s policy of “peaceful neighbourhood” and Indian atrocities and human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir were also highlighted.
It was decided that these consultations would be held on a regular basis with the next round scheduled in Islamabad next year.
