QUETTA: (Parliament Times) Afghan Forces resorted to unprovoked firing at Pak-Afghan border near Chaman on Friday morning.

One civilian was killed and eighteen others, including FC personnel, women and children, were injured in the firing.

According to ISPR, the Afghan border forces opened fire on the FC personnel deployed for the security of population census team.

The Afghan border forces have been creating hurdles in conduct of census in divided villages of Killi Luqman and Killi Jehangir area in Chaman.

This has been done despite the fact the Afghan authorities had been informed well in advance, and coordination was carried out through diplomatic and military channels for conduct of the census.

Chaman crossing has been closed after the incident.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the grave incident of firing by Afghan border police near Chaman border.

In a statement, he said expressed his profound grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives and injuries caused to civilian and personnel of law enforcement agencies.

Terming the incident as most unfortunate, the prime minister said that recurring of such incidents is contrary to our efforts for achieving peace and stability in the region.

Nawaz Sharif said it is the responsibility of Afghan government to ensure that such incidents are permanently stopped.

The Prime Minister extended his heartfelt condolences and sympathies with the affected families and directed the authorities concerned for treatment of the injured.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has strongly condemned firing incident by Afghan Border Police targeting FC personnel who were detailed for security of Population Census team at Pakistan-Afghan border.

In a statement, the Minister expressed his heartfelt condolences and sympathies with the bereaved families.

He also prayed for early recovery of the injured.
