Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, normal life was adversely affected by the protest shutdown across the territory on the second consecutive day, today, against the killing of eight civilians by Indian troops in the territory on Sunday.
All shops, businesses establishments and educational institutions remained closed while traffic was off the road. Indian police and paramilitary personnel were deployed in strength in Srinagar and other places to prevent anti-India protests. Internet and phone services remained suspended. Call for the strike was given by the joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
The resistance leaders while paying tributes to the martyred youth said that pro-India Peoples Democratic Party and National Conference were responsible for the bloodshed. They pointed out that New Delhi had adopted a repressive military approach in dealing with the political and humanitarian problem of Kashmir.
Hurriyet leaders, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Zafar Akbar Butt, Bilal Siddiqui, Muhammad Ramazan Khan, Mir Shahid Saleem, Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo and Jamaat-e-Islami of the occupied territory in their statements termed the killing of unarmed protesters as part of a well-planned genocide of the Kashmiri people.
A court in Srinagar extended the remand of the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, for five more days. He has been once again sent to Central Jail, Srinagar. Yasin Malik was arrested by Indian police on 18th of the last month.
An APHC spokesman in a statement in Srinagar denounced the puppet authorities for deploying personnel of Indian Border Security Force outside the residence of Syed Ali Gilani at Hyderpora in Srinagar. Syed Ali Gilani is under continued house arrest since 2010.
In New York, the Secretary General of United Nations, Antonio Guterres, today, asked India and Pakistan to find a peaceful solution for the Kashmir dispute through dialogue. His Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric during a regular press briefing dismissed the claim that the Antonio Guterres was reluctant to address the Kashmir dispute. He maintained that the UN chief was following the situation in Kashmir.
