Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Gilani while asking Indian rulers to read writing on the wall has said that Jammu and Kashmir is a political dispute which can only be resolved through initiation of sincere political process among all stakeholders.
Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that inflexibility and stubbornness being shown by India on Kashmir would yield nothing except disaster and destruction. He denounced the detention of senior resistance leaders and activists and said that it was highly undemocratic to deny political space to the Hurriyet leadership.
The forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement expressed serious concern over the escalating tension between Pakistan and India along the Line of Control and urged the two countries to enter into meaningful dialogue for settlement of the Kashmir dispute. The forum condemned the authorities for restricting Hurriyet leaders and activists from holding peaceful protests against Indian brutalities.
Hurriyet leaders, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Javed Ahmad Mir, Shabbir Ahmad Dar and the High Court Bar Association in their statements while paying tributes to the Kashmiri martyrs said that the unresolved Kashmir dispute was posing a serious threat to the regional peace.
Zamrooda Habib and Tariq Ahmad Dar, who remained in illegal Indian detention for several years, while addressing an event on the occasion of the 34th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva through video link from Srinagar said that India had converted entire Jammu and Kashmir into a big jail.
Meanwhile, several people were injured in clashes erupted after Indian forces launched a cordon and search operation in Chadoora area of Badgam district to arrest some freedom fighters. As the operation was under way, the civilians from nearby villages marched towards the area and pelted stones on the forces. Many people were injured when the troops used force and opened fire on the protesters.
On the other hand, discrimination against Dalits at the hands of upper class Hindus forced a PhD scholar of the Jawaharlal Nehru University to commit suicide in New Delhi. The 27-year-old Dalit, Jeevanantham, in his Facebook post on March 10 mentioned about discrimination against Dalits. Another PhD student Rohith Vemula had also killed himself at the University of Hyderabad, last year, in protest against caste-based discrimination.
