Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, prominent intellectual of India and social worker, Kamal Morarka and the Chief Editor of “Chothi Dunya” Santosh Bhartiya met the Chairman of Hurriyet forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his residence in Srinagar, today.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq apprised the delegation of the current political situation in occupied Kashmir. He told the delegates that the people of Kashmir were not against any country, but they were struggling for their right to self-determination. He said that Kashmir was a longstanding dispute that was holding the regional peace hostage for the past seven decades.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that it was the responsibility of the Indian civil society members, intellectuals and media organizations to inform the people of India about the brutalities by Indian forces in the occupied territory and urged them to put pressure on India to settle the lingering Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of Kashmiris.

The members of the delegation told Mirwaiz Umar Farooq that due to the tense situation in Kashmir, the sentiment of the people of Kashmir should be respected and efforts should be made for settlement of the dispute through meaningful dialogue.
