Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) AJK President Sardar Muhammad Masood Khan has sought United Kingdom’s assistance in peaceful settlement of Kashmir dispute and development of education sector in the state. He was talking to a delegation of British Council led by Roze Merry Hill which called on him here on Thursday.

The President said about a million people from Mirpur and Kotli districts of Azad Kashmir are settled in the United Kingdom and playing their positive role for the progress and development of the country. He said that a large number of Kashmiris are the members of European and British Parliaments and also representing local bodies’ institutions.

On this occasion, Country head of the British Council informed that the Council will sign a memorandum of understanding with the AJK government soon for the development of different sectors including formal and technical education.

Additional Chief Secretary Development Syed Asif Hussain Shah was also present on the occasion. The Country Head of the British Council told the president that Council intends to cooperate with AJK government on eight different sectors and memorandum of understanding (MoU) would be sign in this respect shortly. The areas of cooperation are included training of Primary and elementary school teachers, leadership building, improvement in higher education and assistance in technical education. She said that British Council is working with different departments of AJK government in this regard. President told the British Council delegation AJK has highest literacy rate compare to other four provinces of Pakistan and education

opportunities are available to male and female students without any discrimination. There are five universities, three medical colleges and one Cadet College in Azad Kashmir. Every year thousands of graduates pass out in different disciplines including doctors and engineers.

Earlier President Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Muhammad Masood Khan said AJK Television is playing a vital role in highlighting Kashmir dispute in its true perspective.

During his visit to the AJK-TV Station in Muzaffarabad today, he said despite limited resources, organization has played a central role in countering the Indian propoganda regarding Kashmir dispute. The President said the issue of AJK TV Transmission and Azad Kashmir Radio’s high power transmitter has already been taken with the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting in his recent meeting. Earlier, Managing Director AJK-Television briefed the President about the programs and outreach of the station.
