The origins of fashion in Pakistan come from British rule. They left sub-continent, leaving behind their culture, language and even fashion. As there was no sense of glamour and style in our region, everybody started following English style the way it suited them. Women used to wear loose baggy shirts accompanied by tight fitted trousers. Talking about late 80’s women were fond of wearing chooridaar, which was complimented by bangles and some earnings.  About makeup, it was peculiar and bright; shades of green and pink were quiet famous.  With the coming of 90’s, fashion became more sensible and more elegant; it was a time for revival, more cultural-based.  This was an era of reproducing and renovating old ideas, with a comeback of fully laden embroidery and ghararas. Bob hairstyle was trendy with blond highlights. Boat shoes, court shoes and heels were commonly popular in that era, the height of fashion. Unlike glossy look, matte faces were seen, whether the lipsticks or the foundation base.  Everyone was diet conscious too; sleek and smart figure was in demand.  Today, year 2016, we have come far way, this is the hi-tech and a fast paced time. Both, women and men know what they want and how exactly they want their looks to-be. The clothes too have become more slick and controlled. Today women are more excited about short shirts and pajamas with little less embroidery, composed makeup and less jewelry. A trend has emerged that focuses more on healthy lifestyle, as a whole, not just on fashion. Now people do not believe in following what others are doing there is more focus on wearing what looks good on you. So the formula of going with the flow is seen rarely today.  It is true to describe fashion today as something that “comes from within you”.
