Islamabad: The federal government’s claims to bring revolutionary change in the educational system remain mere claims as it has been revealed that 3,800 posts were lying vacant in colleges and schools under the auspices of Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), out of which 2,330 posts are of teachers.
According to reliable sources, FDE, which controls the administration of 423 government institutions, has exhausted and completely lost its utility. In the educational institutions of Islamabad about 3,800 posts of teachers and concerned staffers are lying vacant for the last considerable span of time and this state of affair has adversely affected the educational activities coupled with administrative matters.
In 423 schools and colleges, 215,000 students – boys and girls- are enrolled. Of which 9,000 positions of teachers 2,330 posts and 1,400 non-teaching staffers have been lying vacant for the last several years.
Previous governments have spent billions of rupees on the refurbishment, renovation and outer walls of the institutions, but did not focus on the recruitment of teaching-staff to impart education to millions of students in these educational institutions which dented the image of institutions.
Sources said that due to the paucity and under staffing in the educational institutions, the average is one teacher for hundred students and he is compelled to teach all the subjects to all students.
On the other hand services of daily wagers are hired to meet the ugly situation who used to be habitual absentees as they are not paid their salaries on time and thus the majority of the students are denied their right of standard education.
In the era of previous governments four billion rupees have been earmarked for the prime minister reforms’ program in education but no concrete steps were taken in this regard except the refurbishment and renovation of some of schools.
It is recalled that court had ordered to regularize the serves of daily wagers but nothing has been done in this direction.
Public circles say that PTI government which entered power corridor with slogans of revolutionary changes and it is its duty now to fill up the vacant posts on priority basis.
