Karachi: A convoy of human rights activists that began their march on foot from Hyderabad to press the demand for early release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui is scheduled to reach here on Friday.
According to details, ‘Aafia release foot march’ began from Hyderabad previous day to protest against the lackluster attitude of the Pakistani rulers towards the issue of Aafia Siddiqui release and to demand her early repartition, led by noted human rights activist, Vero Kolhi, the recipient of presidential award for her struggle against bonded labor in Pakistan.
Due to very hot weather, though Kolhi fell ill but she continued her march on foot along with other activists. She said she would not stop this struggle at any cost. She said it is the demand of the whole nation that Dr Aafia Siddiqui should be freed on humanitarian grounds.
Pasban Hyderabad president Arshad Arain, Dr Sham Lal, Adi Haleema, Adi Kanwal, Adi Shahnaz, Manzoor Khan, Anwer Sheikh, Amir Qaimkhani, Hameed, Ramzan Brohi, Ramsan, Bhora and other activists are part of the foot march that was given warm welcome by residents of various villages along the Superhighway.
When the convoy reached Nooriabad, it was showered with flower petals.
Pasban leaders Khalil Ahmed Palari, Ameen Haideri Palari and Vero Kolhi spoke the reception. They said the rulers call Dr Aafia Siddiqui as their own daughter but they are not willing to play their due role to talk to the US administration for her release.
However, Pasban e Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor said that Pasban is a voice against injustice and the illegal detention of Aafia Siddiqui is a big injustice and we cannot remain silent on it. He said the rulers should listen to the demand of whole nation and contact the US administration on official level to raise this issue on humanitarian grounds.
Aafia Movement Pakistan leader and noted neurophysician of the country Dr Fowzia Siddiqui has said that the Aafia release caravan is reaching Karachi on March 30, when Aafia Siddiqui completes her 15 years of illegal detention. She appealed to the human rights organizations and civil society to accord warm welcome to the Aafia release march participates at Suhrab Goth, Super highway on Friday.
