Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, fresh braid cutting incidents triggered protests and clashes in several parts of the Kashmir Valley.
Clashes erupted in Mehjoor Nagar of Srinagar after the braid of a woman was cut by miscreants. Youth took to the streets and clashed with Indian forces. Protests and clashes led to shutdown in the area. Protests also broke out in Chattabal area against an overnight braid cutting incident. A large number of women took to the streets and raised anti-India and anti-police slogans. A miscreant barged into the secluded house of Bilal Ahmed Gojri and attacked his wife but lost balance and fell on the ground and suffered injuries and is unable to move.
The protesters, mostly women amid slogans, castigated the authorities for failing to protect the honour and dignity of womenfolk. Panic gripped in Dandarkhah area of Batamalloo when the braid of a woman was chopped off. People found the victim unconscious with her braid cut and she was immediately rushed to hospital for treatment.
Police lobbed tear-smoke shells to disperse scores of protesters at Lasjan by-pass after a braid chopping incident in the area. Locals said that miscreants chopped off the braid of a woman at Golapora Lasjan.
Two more incidents of braid chopping were reported in Budgam district where one 22-year old woman fell victim in Shamshabad village and a girl student at Khansahab. It was the second incident in the locality in just three days. A special police officer was thrashed by people in Beerwah for being a braid chopper.
A fresh braid chopping incident took place at Lari Preng Kangan in Ganderbal district on Wednesday evening. Husband of the victim said that unknown persons entered the room and chopped her braid.
