Islamabad: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has `dismissed the petition seeking disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf Chief Imran Khan, Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad, and PAT Chief Tahir ul Qadri being not persuaded.
ECP five members bench presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza took up the petition seeking disqualification of PTI chief Imran Khan, AML chief Sheikh Rasheed and PAT leader Allama Tahir Ul Qadri for hearing on Monday.
The petitioner took the plea that all three respondents had not mentioned facts in nomination papers filed by them in 2002 therefore they should be disqualified.
ECP took up the petition for preliminary hearing but the petitioner himself didn’t appear before it to defend its stance on which ECP rejected the petition.
On the other hand, ECP also dismissed the petition filed by PPP candidate Faisal Mir against federal minister for commerce Pervaiz Malik for violating electoral code of conduct.
During the course of hearing, the petitioner who had filed petition against Malik didn’t appear before ECP, however, counsel of Malik informed ECP that only allegation of utilizing government resources has been leveled against his client. He has now withdrawn him from electoral campaign and he has not utilized any development fund .
The counsel for commerce minister Pervaiz Malik also filed an affidavit to the effect that his client had withdrawn from election campaign of Kalsoom Nawaz.
The ECP while accepting the affidavit dismissed the petition and issued directives that no development scheme be announced in the constituency on the occasion of by polls.
