Sheffield: The president of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Masood Ahmed Khan has said that the global institutions as well as the governments of influential countries across the globe were well aware of the prevailing political and human rights situation in Indian held Kashmir but because of their economic and trade interests with India they have maintained a deafening silence over Kashmir.
The AJK president, who is currently on a foreign visit, said this while addressing a reception ceremony held in his honour by former Lord Mayor Raja Qurban Hussain here on Monday. The function was attended by newly elected Lord Mayor, counselors and members of the British parliament. MP Gilfirnas, Zubair Gul the chief commissioner for overseas Pakistanis, Counseler Ishfaq Kiani, Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Raja Qurban Hussain, Raja Najabat and member legislative assembly Sehrish Qamar and Naseema Wani also spoke on the occasion.
Speaking the selected gathering Khan said that India has been befooling the western countries on the pretext that being a neighbour it [India] would prevent china from becoming economic power. Terming it as a wishful thinking on the part of India he said that it was not practically possible. He said that despite the passage of 70 years the issue of Kashmir was alive. Terming it as the biggest achievement of Kashmiri people he said that India on one hand has been committing serious crimes against Kashmiris in held Kashmir while on the other it has waged a silent war against Pakistan. “The sole purpose behind the India’s nefarious design is to sabotage the CPEC, weaken Pakistan economically thereby fomenting political instability in the countryâ€, the president said adding that there was a dire need to forge complete unanimity at all levels to thwart such conspiracies.
He was of the view that Pakistan would emerge as 20th largest economy by 2025. In order to seek an early resettlement of Kashmir dispute he said that in the upcoming four years all out efforts would be made to resolve the lingering dispute.
The AJK president thanked the British parliamentarians for their contribution in holding a debate on Kashmir at the British parliament. He said that 24 parliamentarians who fully supported the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination was a big achievement. He also thanked the Labour Party for raising voice in favour of Kashmiris’ rights.
Regarding gross HR violations in Indian occupied Kashmir, the president said that India has been flagrantly violating the international law, Geneva Convention and the UN charter in held Kashmir. He said that it was incumbent upon the international community to take effective cognizance of the situation and hold India accountable for its crimes against humanity in Kashmir.
