.Lahore: Steps are being taken to ensure the target of 22 million metric tonnes of wheat production this year said Minister for Agriculture, Punjab Syed Hussain Jahania Gardezi while addressing a seminar in Gujranwala district for creating awareness to farmers on Rabi crops . Minister for Agriculture, Punjab said that present government is taking steps to ensure food security at the national level and under the National Wheat Program Rs.12.59 Billion to increase its per acre yield is being implemented. Under this project, one million bags of approved varieties of wheat are being provided on subsidy this year . Exhibition plots, Seminars and Farmers’ Day are also being organized to introduce modern production technology of Wheat among farmers. During the financial year 2021-22, under this scheme, other agricultural inputs including modern agricultural machinery worth over Rs. 1 billion are being provided at 50% subsidy for the promotion of mechanized cultivation of wheat,he added. Farmers should sowing work according to the recommendations of the Department of Agriculture.Farmers should use the nutritious fertilizers and certified seeds to get higher yields of wheat this year .Syed Hussain Jahania Gardezi in his address to the farmers said that a revolutionary program of issuance of “Kisan Card” has been launched through which all subsidies in the form of cash transfer would be transferred directly to the farmers’ account. So far, more than 590,000 farmers have registered themselves to get the Kissan Card. On this occasion, the provincial agriculture minister appealed to the farmers to complete the registration of the Kissan Card as soon as possible so the farmers can purchase agricultural inputs in time and able to achieve production targets .
Director General of Agriculture (Extension) Dr. Anjum Ali said that this year the farmers were being sensitized under modern production technology to get maximum yield at minimum cost and the department was using all means to make the wheat growing campaign a success.
Director (Extension) Javed Iqbal, Director (Water Managment) Abbas Tatla, Syed Mohsin Hassan and a large number of agricultural experts and farmers attended the seminar.
