Turbat, (Parliament Times) : Professor Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch, Dean, Faculty of Literature and Languages and Director, Institute of Balochi Language and Culture (IBLC) at the University of Turbat (UoT), was honored with the presidential award “Tamgha-e-Imtiaz” for his outstanding contributions to literature and writing. The award was presented by the caretaker Governor of Balochistan, Captain (R) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, during a ceremony at Governor House Quetta on Pakistan Day.
Dr. Abdul Saboor is a distinguished writer, critic, historian, and educationist who has significantly enriched the understanding of culture and history. Beginning his academic journey as a lecturer in the Balochi Department at the University of Balochistan (UoB) in 1994, he later served as Chairman of the Balochi Department from 2005 to 2013 and also functionalized the Department of Gender Development Studies as its head. With academic achievements including an MPhil in 2002 and a PhD in 2009, he has contributed extensively to the Pakistan Study Centre, Balochistan Study Centre, and UoB. Mentoring numerous MPhil and PhD scholars, he played pivotal roles in the curriculum development of various education boards and commissions. He also served as a member and chairman of several councils and boards.
Dr. Abdul Saboor’s academic dedication led him to establish “Hankeen,” the first Balochi language research journal in 2009 at UoB, and “Meri,” a research journal at UoT.
In 2006, he was honored by HEC Islamabad with an award for the best research book among publications from universities across Pakistan. Completing many projects at national and international levels he authored seventeen books and numerous research papers in leading journals.
Appointed as the 1st Pro Vice-Chancellor of UoT in acknowledgment of his academic services, he remains a founding member of UoT and currently holds the positions of Dean, Faculty of Literature and Languages, and Director of IBLC. In recognition of his exceptional achievements in literature and writing, the President of Pakistan has honored him with the prestigious “Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.”
UoT’s VC, Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad, along with faculty members, administrative staff, and students, congratulated Dr. Baloch on this remarkable achievement and lauded his invaluable contributions to literature and the development of UoT. The VC emphasized the significance of this award for Balochistan and the UoT community, underscoring Dr. Abdul Saboor’s profound impact on the university’s standing at national and international levels through his academic and administrative endeavors.
