Sherani : ‘Education is the fundamental right of every child and under article 25-A, providing free and compulsory education to children aged 5-16 is the responsibility of the government. A target has been set for the academic year 2024 to enroll around 1700 children in public sector schools across the district,’ said Deputy Commissioner Azeem Jan Dumar while addressing a press conference to formally inaugurate the students’ enrollment campaign in all public sector schools.
He was accompanied by the District Education Officer Taza Khan Nasar, District Program Manager Education Support Programme (ESP) Raziq Jan Kakar, District Chairman Adv Dawood Khan Sherani, and representatives of the teachers’ union. A banner displayed behind the officers reads: ‘Let’s Enroll Every Child In School’, urging the parents to enroll their loved ones at government-run schools.
The deputy commissioner further said that preparations are completed and the distribution of free textbooks is underway at all the clusters. Moreover, walks and seminars will be organized and mass announcements will also be made in mosques through loudspeakers at the district level, he said.
‘In those areas lacking schools, Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP) learning centers are being established with the financial support of UNICEF. All-out efforts would be made to enroll the maximum number of children at schools,’ he vowed.
Mr Dumar highlighted the shared responsibility of teachers in ensuring children’s education, with teachers holding a pivotal role in far-off areas. He also asked political and social figures, religious scholars, media persons, notables, and people from all walks of life to support the enrollment campaign, allowing the students to unfold their dreams, talents, and desires through education.
