Islamabad,  (Parliament Times)  : Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists annual general body meeting to be held at National Press Club
in which a large number of journalists from the twin cities participated in the meeting. President RIUJ Abid Abbasi welcomed the participants and Regarding the activities of RIUJ, the members informed the RIUJ in detail and said that the RIUJ has been active for the whole year to protect the rights of journalists and will continue to fight for the rights of journalists in the future. General Secretary RIUJ Tariq Ali Wark presented the annual performance report of RIUJ in which the protest camps organized by RIUJ, protests and measures taken for the rights of journalists were mentioned in detail. The performance report was appreciated by the participants. The participants of the meeting asked various questions regarding the performance report, which were answered in detail by the leadership of RIUJ. RIUJ has played a very active role throughout the year despite very low expenditure, Later, the meeting unanimously approved the performance report and finance report. In the meeting, President PFUJ Afzal Butt, Former Secretary General PFUJ Fauzia Shahid National Press Club Finance Secretary Nayar Ali, Vice President Maira Imran, Tariq Chaudhry, Crime Reporters Association President Saghir Chaudhry, APP Union President Shahzad Chaudhry, Ishaq Chaudhry, Dastar Shah, Asghar Chaudhry, Naeem Mehboob, Aamir Butt, Kashif Rafiq, Bilal Dar, Qurban Sati, Rana Zahid, Javed Bhagat, Jafar. A large number of journalists, including Balti, Zaman Mughal, participated. Three resolutions were also presented in the meeting. The first resolution states that this House strongly condemns the trolling of journalists by various political parties and demands the political leadership of the country calling it an attack on the freedom of the press. That it should be closed immediately, In the second resolution, it is said that this House strongly condemns the killing of senior journalist Arshad Sharif and requests the Supreme Court to conduct a transparent investigation into the incident and bring the real culprits to justice and provide justice to all the martyred journalists.
In the third resolution, the media owners and the government have been demanded to stop the series of forced dismissals and non-payment of salaries in the media institutions and to ensure the payment of dues of journalists, former Secretary General PFUJ Fauzia Shahid said. That RIUJ’s job is to strive for the rights of journalists, there should not be any negligence in it, he paid tribute to RIUJ for its excellent performance.
