Lahore, (PR) :The Punjab government has successfully provided a historical relief in the price of flour and roti to the people of Punjab. The price of a 20 kg bag of flour is reduced by Rs 1000 within a month. A bag of 20 kg flour is available in the market for Rs 1700 to 1800 while a bag of 10 kg flour is available for Rs 900. Naan and Roti are available across Punjab at notified prices. The reduction in the price of flour and roti benefited the common man. These views were expressed by Provincial Food Minister Bilal Yasin while presiding over a cabinet committee meeting at the Civil Secretariat. Provincial Minister of Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, Secretary Food Punjab Moazzam Iqbal Sipra, Director Food Punjab Shoaib Khan Jadoon and other officials of the relevant departments participated in the meeting. Addressing the meeting, Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin said that the government’s full attention is focused on the relief of the common man and we have reduced the price of Roti with a strong strategy. He said that 50 percent of the population of the province lives in cities and the poor people are happy about the reduction in the price of flour. Bilal Yasin said that there is a carry-forward stock of 23 lakh metric tonnes of wheat in Punjab which is enough for the next year. The provincial food minister said that during the caretaker period, the unnecessary import of wheat created a crisis for the farmers. The prime minister has formed a fact-finding committee to inquire into the matter, which will submit a report soon. Bilal Yasin said that the government intends to make the report of the fact-finding committee public and take action against those responsible. The Food Minister said that for the protection of the farmers, a close watch is being kept on the supply and demand of wheat in the market. This time inter-district and inter-provincial transportation of wheat was allowed for the convenience of farmers. For the welfare of farmers, the government also encouraged flour mills and private sector to purchase wheat. He said that providing all possible relief to the people is the top priority of the government.
