Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri

QUETTA,  (Parliament Times) : No minority, especially Muslims, is safe in India. The incidents of Indian atrocities and mistreatment of minorities, especially Muslims, are increasing day by day. These views were expressed by Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri in a press statement condemning the blasphemous statements of the leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India. She said that the reality of India’s hollow slogan of being a democrat should be exposed to the whole world after the use of force against Muslims protesting peacefully in India and the incidents of violence against them. Has done in recent times, the government has continued to crack down on Muslims in India who have raised their voices against discrimination against Muslims.

The use of force against protesters is a violation of international human rights law. Arbitrary detention and house demolition are also a violation of international human rights law. Sh demanded immediate and unconditional release of the detained protesters by the Indian government, saying that life on Indian Muslims has been made so difficult that Indian police are raiding the homes of Muslims protesting against the blasphemous statements. She said that so far thousands of protesters, including many women, have been arrested and hundreds of Muslim homes have been demolished in flagrant violation of international and human rights.

Delhi Police have even detained and tortured students protesting against the demolition of a Muslim woman’s house. Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri said that the oppression of Muslims was taking place on the orders of the ruling party BJP while no action had been taken against the BJP spokesperson for making hateful statements. She said that pro-peace activists in India, former judges and senior lawyers of the Indian Supreme Court and High Courts have written a letter to the Chief Justice of India urging him to stop the demolition of houses of Muslim protesters by state authorities in Uttar Pradesh and many more.

Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri said that Shiv Sena, India’s Hindu nationalist party and several Hindu organizations have said that the growing Muslim population in India is a threat to the country’s Hindus and Hindu religion and that this negative thinking is extremist Hindus. She said that Indian Muslims are struggling to get their place in India despite all the difficulties and obstacles. Most of the Muslims in the northern Indian states are living in poverty. Since the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in India, Muslims have been experiencing a sense of political helplessness.

Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assurances to protect the Constitution and secularism, hard-line leaders of the BJP and Hindu organizations have from time to time made anti-Muslim and hateful statements and no action has been taken against them by the Indian government. It is a slap on the face to India’s claim to be a democracy and a gross violation of human rights that is not found in any other society in the world.
