Rawalpindi,   (Parliament Times) :The openness of the busiest section of GT Road, Beat 4 and the issue of service lan in densely populated areas could not be solved even after years. The traditional repair work of Rawalpindi Taxila Road is going on instead of rebuilding on the prevailing standards of quality, after the NHA canceled the contract with an approved contractor for faulty repairs two years ago on the basis of media reports, But since then, the work of widening the road has not started yet. According to Highway Police sources, on this section where more than one lakh vehicles pass daily, Due to the two lanes of the road and the heavy flow of traffic, the journey of 30 to 40 kms is completed in an hour and a half. While from Taxila, Wah area where four cement factories are set up and sand and gravel for construction of buildings is also transported from here day and night. Heavy loads of trucks not only cause road breakdowns but also often lead to dangerous traffic jams and accident rates. Although road repairs are being carried out by the NHS in some places, the traditional method of repair in such a busy section fails and lasts only a few months. Public circles have demanded the Federal Minister for Communications and Chairman NHA to widen the road from Rawalpindi to Wah Cantt and build a service road in densely populated areas.
