RAWALPINDI,   (Parliament Times)  :  With the cooperation of Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Rawalpindi, SACHET-Pakistan held a one-day free eye camp on Thursday, 21st October 2021 (from 9 am to 2 pm) at SACHET Clinic Pinyali located at Main Kahuta Road, Rawalpindi. Local community representatives including young male and female students shouldered administrative arrangements for the successful running of the camp.

At the camp, around 600 patients (men, women, and children) from Pinyali and the surrounding areas of tehsil Kahuta received free eye care services. The main objective of the eye camp was to provide quality eye care services to the impoverished in under-served parts of the rural Rawalpindi and Islamabad district. The services during the camp included free OPD services, eye-aids such as medicines, spectacles/glasses, and computerized vision tests, computerized eye examinations and eye specialist consultations. Conjunctivitis, Corneal Opacity, Pterygium, Squint/Ortho-optic Assessment, and Glaucoma were all treated during the camp. This was the third eye camp in a series organized by SACHET in collaboration with Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital Rawalpindi since Sept 2021. Local community and patients expressed their satisfaction and gratitude to the team of both organizations on holding the free eye camp and requested more of such camps in future.

According to experts around eight million people in Pakistan suffer from eye diseases. Main causes that lead to vision impairment and blindness are diabetes, blood pressure, fog, smog, environmental pollution, excessive usage of computers and mobile phones are on the rise in society which affect eyesight. Members of the community were made aware of the preventive measure to avoid vision impairment.
