LAHORE: 98 deaths were reported and 5329 new infections in the last 24 hours due to coronavirus in the country Thursday.
Positive cases have soared to 705,517 while the tally of fatalities has steered to 15,124 all over the country.
As per the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) 5,329 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
The highest number of deaths due to coronavirus was reported in Punjab where 6,793 people lost their lives 4,520 in Sindh, 2,519 in KP, 591 in Islamabad, 386 in Azad Kashmir, 212 in Balochistan, and 103 in GB.
Pakistan has so far conducted 10,584,877 coronavirus tests and 49,816 in the last 24 hours. 623,399 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 3,942 patients are in critical condition.
The number of Coronavirus cases reported in Islamabad is 63,499, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa so far reported 94,880, Punjab recorded 240,584 cases, Sindh registered 267,612 cases, Balochistan recorded 19,999 cases, Azad Kashmir reported 13,873 cases and 5,010 people have been affected by Coronavirus in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The National Command and Operations Center has declared 26 districts of Pakistan as high risk areas. Lahore,
Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Mandi Bahauddin, Multan, Okara, Rahim Yar Khan, Rawalpindi, Gujarat, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Sialkot, Toba Tek Singh, Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Kotli, Peshawar, Swat, Nowshera, Dir Lower, Malakand, Swabi, Charsadda and Haripur are among the high risk districts.
India has recorded 12.8 million COVID-19 cases, the most after the United States and Brazil. It is now battling a deadly second wave of infections, and this week the number of daily new cases passed the peak of the first wave seen last September.
New Zealand on Thursday temporarily suspended entry for all travellers from India, including its own citizens, for about two weeks following a high number of positive coronavirus cases arriving from the South Asian country.
The move comes after New Zealand recorded 23 new positive coronavirus cases at its border on Thursday, of which 17 were from India.
The suspension will start from 1600 local time on April 11 and will be in place until April 28. During this time the government will look at risk management measures to resume travel.
