ZHOB: Livestock and Dairy Development department of Balochistan has advised the livestock farmers to get their animals vaccinated against the seasonal diseases ahead of winter season. The department held a three-day long vaccination camp in a far-off area of the district, where the veterinary team vaccinated thousands of cattle.

Deputy Director Dr. Naseebullah Kakar told this scribe that, on the special directives of provincial minister Livestock and Dairy Development Mitha Khan Kakar, Secretary Tayyab Lehri, Director General Ghulam Rasool Taj, Divisional Director Dr. Baha-ul-Haq Mandokhail and Director Animal Health Dr. Juma Khan Babar, the vet team vaccinated over ten thousand animals including sheep, goats and cows in Abdullahzai area of the district during the three-day free vaccination camp. Holding the camp is aimed at vaccinating the cattle against different diseases. He added that the next camps would be held at Garda Babar and Khwasti area, supported by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. He said, besides the vaccination, free medicines are also provided to the cattle owners.

The vet team comprising Dr. Alla-ud-Din Kibzai, Dr. Muhammad Karim Mandokhail, Dr. Muhibullah Nasar and Muhammad Hanif treated and vaccinated the cattle to prevent animal diseases as the winter season made its presence felt. He urged the cattle owners to stay in contact with the officials in order to save their animals from the diseases.

“The cattle owners have been asked to take advantage of the vaccination campaign in their respective areas to make sure that each and every animal is vaccinated,” Dr. Naseebullah Kakar said, adding the animals are being drenched with de-worming medicines against the endoparasites and being treated against ectoparasites, he said.

Livestock is an important sector of the rural economy after agriculture. Zhob valley’s pasture land extends hundreds of kilometers. There is a huge potential, if the livestock breed is improved. The provincial minister Mitha Khan Kakar seems to be committed to develop and put the sector on modern lines.
