RAWALPINDI, (Parliament Times) : Commissioner Rawalpindi Capt (retd) Muhammad Mahmood has directed the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) to survey the land required for the Lai Expressway project and estimate the government land coming under the project separately.
He directed this while presiding over a meeting at the Commissioner’s Office in which the progress on other development projects including Lai Expressway was reviewed in detail. The meeting was attended by Director Finance and Planning Nazia Parveen Sindhan, Director General Rawalpindi Development Authority Amara Khan, Nespak officials and other concerned officials.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Captain (Retd) Muhammad Mahmood said that the purpose of Lai Expressway is not only to reduce traffic congestion and provide better travel facilities but also to help in preventing urban flooding. He said the Lai Expressway project also includes service roads and a flood protection channel. He said that Lai Expressway would play an important role in reducing traffic congestion in Rawalpindi and Islamabad and would also significantly reduce environmental pollution. He said that the areas connected to Lai Expressway would improve economically and create new business opportunities which would be in line with the modern requirements of Rawalpindi city. He said that projects like Lai Expressway and Ring Road would significantly improve the urban life in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
