Rawalpindi, ()Parliament Times) Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Aamir Khattak while presiding over the meeting held regarding the roadshow said that to make mobility easy for students, motorbikes are being given by the Chief Minister of Punjab with a subsidy of one billion. The event will be held on April 25, 2024, at the Rawalpindi Medical College under the chairmanship of the Provincial Minister for Transport. Commissioner Rawalpindi directed to completion of all the arrangements for the ceremony and director colleges to ensure the participation of the students of Degree Colleges, Principals, and Vice Chancellors and Registrar of the University. Besides this, the Municipal Corporation scheme of road maintenance and repair within the city is also under process. 09 schemes have been completed so far out of a total of 35 schemes for which the Commissioner directed to Complete as soon as possible to ensure quality and transparency. He further added that for the first time in the history of Punjab, a scheme of providing 20,000 motorbikes has been brought to the students of public and private graduate colleges and universities. The online application can be applied at the web portal www.bikes.punjab.gov.pk and the last date for submission of the application is 29 April 2024. Registration of thousands of students has been completed so far.
While giving a briefing on this occasion, it was informed that a committee has been formed by the Chief Minister of Punjab for the urban transportation plan of major cities, which will cover roads and transport. The committee consists of the Provincial Transport Minister, as Convener, while Secretary of Transport and Mass Transit, Communication and Works, Housing and Public Health, Planning and Development, the Chief Executive Officer Urban Unit, Chairman of the Punjab Information and Technology Board, Director General Development Authority of City, Deputy Commissioner and Additional Secretary to be the members. The responsibility of the committee is to make and implement an urban transportation plan for the major cities of Punjab in consultation with all the concerned departments.
