ISLAMABAD,(Parliament Times): Kashmir Global Council President Farooq Siddiqui has written a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres demanding that Kashmiris be made representatives at the United Nations for the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. “I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the United Nations had promised the Kashmiris that it would resolve the issue in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiris,” he said in a letter.
The letter stated that they should be reminded again on the report issued by UNHCR in 2018 and 2019 regarding human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. It further added that India had taken the dispute over Jammu and Kashmir between the two countries to the United Nations and the United Nations had passed a resolution in 1948 giving Kashmiris the right to decide their future through referendum. But after seven decades, this issue is still a matter of urgency, so the United Nations should hold a hearing to bring the Kashmiris to a neutral position, while protecting our rights from being usurped. In his letter, Farooq Siddiqui further said that assistance should also be sought from the voters working internationally regarding the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. “The changes that the parties have made or are bringing in their respective constitutions to resolve the issue on their own prove that these countries cannot represent Jammu and Kashmir in any way”, it added.
President Kashmir Global Council demanded that The real parties to the conflict, the Kashmiris themselves, should be given the right to be represented at the United Nations for the conflict. He appealed that The UN General Council should also take into account its resolutions on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in which it has declared unilateral resolution of such disputes unacceptable. Similarly, deliberate changes in the population structure in the disputed area in the light of UN resolutions must be stopped.
