Lahore: Nutrition International in collaboration with Pakistan Pediatrician Association Pakistan organized a special session on nutrition titled “Nutrition in 1st 1000 Days of Life ‘The Right Start” at Hotel Pearl Continental Lahore on 18th October 2019. Session was attended by large number of health professionals including pediatricians, gynecologists, physicians along with civil society representatives and media personnel.

The objective of the session is to include Nutrition agenda in the corridors of national and internal medical conferences and disseminate the messages around maternal, child adolescent nutrition through the pediatricians to the communities.

Prof. Masood Sadiq, President Pediatric Association Punjab inaugurated the session and appreciated the efforts of Nutrition International for bringing the issue of nutrition to discuss with health professionals in context to the first 1000 Days of life.

Foreign speaker Prof Linda de Caestercker from Scotland discussed in detail about the importance of the breast feeding and shared her experience in management of preterm through optimal breastfeeding practices.

Another speaker from Glasgow Prof. Charlotte Wright discussed complimentary feeding initiation on right time and highlighted the importance of food diversity. Country Director Nutrition International Dr. Shabina Raza amongst the one of the panelists, shared her opinion that to deal with critical situation of malnutrition in the country, the 1000 Days approach has been proven the effective. Our aim of is Transforming the lives of one billion vulnerable people specially women, adolescent girls and children by improving their nutritional status in collaboration with government departments and through partnerships at strategic forums to address the issue of hidden hunger. She thanked to the speakers for delivering the academic sessions. The Director General Health Services Punjab Dr. Haroon Jehangir was the chief guest of the event and concluded the session by ensuring the commitment to extend the support from department of health to address the health and nutrition issues in the province.

At the end Chief Guest accompanied by Dr. Shabina Raza distributed shields to the Guest of Honors and certificates to the partners.
