RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Corruption Establishment – Rawalpindi (ACE) has reportedly started inquiry against the Municipal Corporation officials over the illegal construction in the city.
In pursuance of a complaint filed by a citizen Sana-ur-Raheem Abu Bakar dated August 18, 2019, the anti-corruption establishment Rawalpindi has initiated an inquiry against the Municipal Officer Planning (MOP) and Building inspectors of Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi (MCR).
Sana-ur-Rahman in his complaint alleged that 90 percent of buildings are constructed without the approval of building plan from the concerned authority or those who have approved building plans have violated the plan in the construction of the buildings.
The complainant has also submitted photos and location details of more than 60 buildings that are allegedly constructed illegally. The illegal construction causes loose of billions to the department, he stated.
Earlier this, some other citizens including local politicians has also filed a complaint in Municipal Corporation and Anti-Corruption Establishment regarding the illegal construction but later they were mysteriously closed after alleged compromise between the Municipal Corporation Officials and the complainant.
Sana-Ur-Rahman alleged that the illegal construction is made with the consent of building inspectors of Municipal Corporation adding that the officials performing duties as building inspectors are clerks and do not fulfill the required criteria set for the appointment of building inspectors in the law.
The complainant has requested the anti-corruption establishment to probe the alleged corruption of building inspectors of MCR in terms of illegal constructions.
He has also sent a copy of his complaint to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) – Rawalpindi, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi, Member Chief Minister Inspection team Ijaz Khan Jazi and Chief officer, MCR.
The Anti-corruption establishment has initiated an inquiry with diary number 366/enq/2019, sources informed. According to the details submitted with the complaint, a market comprising more than 60 shops is illegally constructed at Main Pirwadhai, near Jamia Masjid Ghousia.
It is pertinent to mention that illegal construction continues in different areas of the city. Contrary to the building bay laws, shops are constructed in a constructed commercial building at Ghosia Chowk, Dhok Kala Khan and a market comprising more than ten shops is constructed at Farooq e Azam Road. Similarly, the construction of an illegal commercial plaza is in the final stage at F-Block Satellite Town near Katarian Market. Moreover, illegal constructions also continue at 6th Road near Suzuki car show room.
