Islamabad: The delegation of young leaders from Pakistan participated in Women Deliver Conference 2019 in Vancouver, Canada. The delegation comprised of members: Muhammad Shahzad Khan, Umair Mushtaq, Tanzila Khan, Laraib Abid, Rao Khalid, Fsahat Ul Hassan, Joshua Dilawar, Umair Asif, Namra Nasyr, Alyas Rahmat, Ali Rizvi, Krishna Maheshwari, Naureen Lalani, Saro Imran, Sumaira Waseem, Mashal, Shumaila and Mahira Ahmed Miyanji.
More than 8,000 participants from 165 different countries came to Vancouver to advance gender equality and the health and rights of girls and women. Women Deliver 2019 was also part of global dialogue with more than 100,000 people engaging worldwide via satellite events. These young leaders participated in different ways throughout the conference; starting with the regional performance at pre-conference event in which they participated and showed culture of their region.
Four of Pakistani delegation members also participated in different events. These Pakistanis were Umair Mushtaq: who performed small skit on gender based violence, Joshua: who participated as a guest speaker in a session organised by Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, Namra: who participated as a guest speaker in a session titled, “Changing Dynamics for Women in Workforce” and Umair: who presented his project about transgender artists. Laraib and Joshua also presented their digital abstracts at Women Deliver 2019.
These young leaders were also invited for a lunch hosted by Australian High Commission Canada and for the dinner hosted by Pakistani Consulate General Dr. Muhammad Tariq. These delegation of Pakistan as well met Pakistani Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq during conference who asked them about their work in Pakistan and engagements at Women Deliver 2019 conference.
