Apropos to the startling revelation of the news item under heading Govt gives Rs20b tax relief to the richest class appeared on July 25-06-2019 in this well-recognised English paper.
The news item has really stunned and shocked simple and average people like me.The govt’s claims to be the custodians of the rights of the poor and underprivileged classes of the country do not carry any weight and value but rather are tactics akin to hoodwinking and befooling the masses in the name of so-called change.
The people of Pakistan had not dreamt of such kind of naya Pakistan where,instead of getting relief and economic well-being,they are burdened with heavy toll of taxes either directly or indirectly due to which they are undergoing trials and tribulations,sorrows and sufferings at the hands of revolutionaries.
On the one hand,the people of my dear homeland are being taught the lessons of adopting austerity measures,sacrificing for the country’s sake while encountering economic troubles and woes with heavy heart but unluckily on the other hand our rulers do live luxurious and pompous lives at the public’s exchequer and provide relief and luggage of comfort to the privileged and richest class.Is it not ridiculous and negation of lofty and sublime ideals and principles of PTI it has been talking about since it was formed. Is PTI’s 21years’ journey of no use to this country after reaching the power corridors from its formation?
I don’t know why only the poor segments of the country are made scapegoats and sacrificial animals for the good of the country?Are they destined and born to face miseries and misfortunes of life for the sake of the richest and elitist class?
Despite paying heavy taxes and abiding by the law of the land,are they being delivered basic services of quality healthcare,education,justice and other basic needs of life the responsibility of which lies in the hands of those who enjoy absolute power in the light of the constitution of the country.
The richest and the privileged class already wields influence,enjoys unlimited power,pelf and perks as if each and every bounty and blessing of this country and mundane world has been showered upon them. The present PTI-led regime has particularly made every possible effort to crush the salaried middle class by targeting it in revising and raising tax rates,which exposes the federal govt’s mindset and poor-friendly policies.
Unless and until the richest and privileged class of the country is brought under the tax net,the country can not expect of making rapid progress and getting rid of ongoing economic crisis it is deeply rooted in.
Do constitute commissions of inquiries in order to ascertain and determine whoever is responsible for debt burden for last ten years and deal with them strictly after findings of the inquiry in accordance with the law.Do sign charter of economy with all the political forces at your caprice and whim to steer the country out of economic instability and debt burden but for God’s sake spare the poor who do not have adequate resources to have even two times’ meal,reduce increased tax burden levied on the salaried middle class,not to snatch the morsel from the poor’s mouth keeping in view your splendid and revolutionary manifesto due to which you, PTI , swept the elections and the poor masses raised slogans in your favour out of sheer pride and jubilation.If you fail to transform the long-cherished dreams of your subjects into reality,both your image and credibility would be tarnished.
It is ripe time and need of the hour to bring change in your policies towards the underprivileged class and burden the richest with tax in the larger interests of the country.
