ISLAMABAD:     Former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has once again approached Islamabad High Court (IHC) in connection with suspension of 7 years sentence awarded to him in Al-azizia Steel Mills reference.

Nawaz Sharif has made NAB, Judge Accountability Court and Superintendent Kot Lakhpat Jail respondents in the petition.

It has been said in the petition it is doctors opinion that Nawaz Sharif is suffering from several fatal diseases. Medical reports and doctors opinion have also been attached with the petition.

The petitioner has taken the plea that political rivals and government men propagated that bail application given for medical treatment is an NRO. Terming application for suspension of sentence as NRO falls under purview of contempt court.

It has been said in the petition if sentence is suspended, it will leave no impact on prosecution case. Therefore , it is requested that sentence be suspended and bail be granted on medical grounds till the decision of appeal plea filed against conviction.

Accountability Court (AC) had awarded 7 years punishment to Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia reference last year.
IHC had earlier dismissed Nawaz Sharif petition seeking suspension of his sentence on medical grounds. He later resorted to Supreme Court (SC) against IHC decision. SC had suspended Nawaz Sharif sentence for 6 weeks in connection with medical treatment. Later SC had rejected petition seeking extension in suspension of sentence and Nawaz Sharif had to go to jail.
