ISLAMABAD: Renowned industrialist Mian Zahid Hussain on Saturday said middlemen are responsible for the unprecedented hike in prices of edibles before the arrival of Ramazan.
People will never get fruit, vegetables, milk, and meat at reasonable price while farmers will not be able to get better returns unless these brokers are discouraged, he said.
Mian Zahid Hussain said that the middlemen continue to work without any documentation and they are responsible for rural poverty and food insecurity.
He said that if a broker buys something at the rate of Rs20 per kilogram from a farmer, he sells it for almost Rs100 per kg which is exploitation of grower and the consumer.
