Islamabad:   (Parliament Times)     Secretary Ministry of Science & Technology (MoST), Captain Nasim Nawaz (Retd), paid a maiden visit to the main campus of National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) here on Monday. In his one-on-one meeting with Lt Gen NaweedZaman, HI (M), (Retd), Rector NUST, in the latter’s office, the duo deliberated upon the current state of science & technology in the country and how NUST could contribute to further improving the overall S&T sector. The Secretary said that NUST has transcended itself as a quality Higher Education Institution and emphasised that other institutions in the length and breadth of the country need to follow suit.

Afterwards, the dignitary attended a comprehensive briefing on the functioning and accelerated transdisciplinary growth of NUST over the years. He took keen interest in current as well as impending developmental projects of NUST, viz infrastructural development at Quetta Campus, establishment of Pakistan’s first National Science & Technology Park (NSTP) and Medical Devices Development Centre, to name a few.

After the briefing session, the esteemed guest was conducted to Medical Devices Development Centre (MDDC) – first-of-its-kind facility in Pakistan for indigenous production of cardiac stents and balloon catheters – and Technology Incubation Centre (TIC), established in 2005 at NUST as the country’s first academia-based incubation centre to foster innovation, and alleviate the nuisance of poverty and unemployment through entrepreneurship .
