Islamabad: (Parliament Times)    While addressing the concluding session at a 4-day training workshop, the Chief Guest, Dr. Munir Ahmed, Chairman PARC said that Pakistan produces prime quality of honey in World and Pakistan has great potential to get itself listed in the major honey producers in the World.

The workshop organized by the Honeybee Research Institute held at NARC, Islamabad was attended by master trainers, extension officers, university teachers, progressive farmers and women from all the four provinces, AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan and various federal and provincial organizations participated.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Munir appreciated the efforts of the Honeybee Research Institute, NARC for initiating industrial linkages with honeybee sector for training and transfer of modern research technology for the socio-economic development of the country. The Chairman, PARC further added that the basic purpose of the Workshop was to draw the attention of the people for the protection and conservation of honeybees and other pollinators. The Chairman, Dr. Munir Ahmed also said that Honey Production is a very useful business in Pakistan. Honey production and beekeeping are environmentally friendly practices and these non-framing business activities have the potential to provide a wide range of economic contributions.

Dr. Rashid Mehmood, Director, Honeybee Research Institute (HBRI), NARC said that the workshop will help in creating more employment and business opportunities for farmers, rural development and economic empowerment of household rural women through training and transfer of modern beekeeping technologies. In the technical sessions of the Workshop, the trainees and participants learned Queen Rearing and stock improvement, queen rearing methods (traditional and non-traditional), choosing the best stock (hive) to raise queens, grafting frame honey composition, quality control parameters, granulation and quality grading and Preparation of honey samples for testing and analysis.
