ISLAMABAD:    FIA once again has requested the Supreme Court (SC) to close Asghar Khan case saying it has become impossible to run this case in any court due to insufficient evidences.

SC has been requested for the second time to close the case through a reply filed in the court Monday.
FIA said that in addition to investigation into benami bank accounts, statements of all important witnesses were recorded. FIA inquiry committee also interviewed two journalists from private TV channels including Mujib ur Rehman Shami and Habib Ikram. The major witnesses Brig (Retd) Hamid Saeed and advocate Yousuf Memon were also investigated. But no sufficient evidence could become available to move forward the case in trial court, FIA added.

FIA requested the SC it has become impossible to run the case in any court due to insufficient evidence.

The defence ministry also filed report in the court in Asghar Khan case. It was told in the report that court of inquiry was constituted by defence ministry on this matter. The committee reviewed all evidence and civilian personnel. According to report court of inquiry recorded statements of 6 witnesses. Efforts are underway to search more witnesses.

Ministry of Defence said all the efforts are being made to take the matter to its logical end.

During the hearing of the case on April 2, SC had summoned FIA supplementary report in Asghar Khan case.
