MUZAFFARABAD: (Parliament Times) To put a check on illegal use of social media, a meeting of task force set up for this purpose was held here on Thursday.

The meeting was chaired by Commissioner Muzaffarabad division Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmed. It was attended by deputy commissioners Muzaffarabad, Jhelum Valley, Neelum Valley, officers of information department and representatives of national security institutions.

The meeting decided to move for legislation to take action against uploading posts or comments against AJK President, prime minister, ministers, chief justices SC, HC, chief secretary and public institutions of the State. It decided that steps would be taken to bring the social media into national parameter and added that disciplinary action would also be taken against those who spread negative and extremist views about religion.

The meeting deliberated upon the day in and day out baseless and unfounded accusations and negative propaganda and activities against Muslim Ummah and the country on social media and decided to formulate effective strategy to counter such elements.

The meeting issued directions to social media wing already set up in Information department to identify the anonymous or fake IDs that are part of a smear campaign against public institutions, Islam and judiciary.

The meeting further decided that in future WhatsApp group of public institutions facebook ID and facebook pages would only be operated by the concerned officials and irrelevant persons would be removed from these groups. It was decided that severe disciplinary action would be taken against those public and private employees who while using facebook IDs are involved in negative or baseless propaganda against government or its institutions. The meeting decided not to public before implementation the official orders or notifications.

Deputy Commissioner Muzaffarabad Badar Munir suggested that WhatsApp groups should be properly registered. It would help effectively put a stem to wrong use of social media. The meeting directed the social media wing of information department to submit a report of committee in this connection to the commissioner office.
