ISLAMABAD: (Parliament Times) A meeting of Board of Governors of AJK medical colleges decided that quality of education in all the medical colleges of the State would be further improved.
The meeting which was presided over by AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan who is chairman Board of Governors, also reviewed financial discipline, provision of resources and decisions approved by the Board of Governors so far. It decided that special audit would be got conducted of these educational institutions.
The meeting decided to constitute an inquiry committee to be headed by Secretary Finance to probe that why Mirpur Medical College had purchased goods more than its requirement. The committee would compile its report to be submitted in the next meeting.
The meeting also approved creation of 56 posts for house job for medical students of Rawalakot who have completed their graduations (MBBS).
The meeting decided that henceforth regular meetings of Board of Governors would be convened. Steps would be taken to make the medical colleges gradually stand on their own feet which requires strict financial discipline and implementation of rules, it decided. The meeting decided to immediately frame the rules for audit and accounts of medical colleges.
Addressing on the occasion Raja Farooq Haider Khan said no compromise would be made on quality and standard of medical colleges. He said medical colleges not only got identity but proper funding was also arranged by the present government. The meeting was told that earlier two medical colleges were included in Federal Development Programme while Rawalakot medical college was being run through the resources of State government.
“In AJK 370 medical students were completing their studies and become doctors annually. Providing them jobs is one of government’s priorities” observed the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Vice Chairman Board of Governors Dr. Najeeb Naqi, members, MLA Abdul Majid Khan, AJK Chief Secretary, Secretary Finance, Secretary Health, Dr. Raja Muhammad Arif, Muhammad Amin, principals of all the 3 medical colleges, special secretary health and others. To overcome the shortage of nurses in AJK government had upgraded the Mirpur Nursing College to degree level. Its earmarked seats were doubled” the meeting was informed. The meeting urged for transparent and merit-based appointments of all medical staffers.
The meeting observed that pension amount was enhanced 400 percent for the past 6 years. Institutions should check their incomes and expenses so that there could be minimum reliance on government grants, the meeting urged.
