LAHORE: Punjab government decision to lift ban on celebrating Basant has been challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC).
Punjab Information Minister Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan while announcing lifting of ban on celebrating Basant in a press conference had said that chief minister Punjab had constituted a committee with reference to negative aspects of Basant.
The petitioner has taken plea in his petition that Basant had become a bloody game, therefore, it was banned. Allowing such recreation which leads to loss of lives runs contrary to the constitution.
He took the ground that government is allowing Basant to divert the attention of people from their genuine problems. Kite flying had caused loss of lives and property worth billion of rupees. Therefore, the court should nullify the government decision to allow celebrating Basant, he prayed.
