Rawalpindi: A spokesman of Rawalpindi Cantonment Board on Friday said that RCB has launched a two-week long cleanliness campaign with a view to provide masses a clean and garbage free atmosphere. Qaiser Mehmood, the RCB spokesman said that an appeal has been made to the people of the area to take part in the drive. He said that president Cantonment Board Commander Brigadier Shahzad Tanveer and Executive Officer have expressed their sense of satisfaction after visiting different areas wherein cleanliness campaign has been going on for last couple of days. He said during the ongoing campaign 497 ton of garbage has been lifted and disposed off whereas pamphlets have been distributed among people as part of awareness campaign.
Meanwhile, the spokesman said that RCB’s anti-encroachment drive was in full swing in different areas of the city. He said that 12 illegally constructed sheds including 38 encroachments (Tharay) were demolished whereas show cause notices have been issued to proprietors for violating the law. Moreover, he said that 5 truck loads of different items including hand carts, tables, chairs have been seized from different vendors and shopkeepers who have illegally set up their stalls on pathways and roads in Dhoke Mustaqeem, Naseerabad, Tench Bata and surrounding areas.
